WTF?
Not that I ever believed I was even slightly girly...seriously I'm missing that gene and I'm well aware of it. I don't like sappy romantic movies....I HATED Titanic with a passion most of you can't begin to imagine. I don't like pink, or flowey prints, or dresses. I don't wear make up (unless absolutely necessary) same with jewelry. I never liked Barbie or tea parties or any of that other stuff little girls like. I liked baseball and remote control cars and super heroes...as I got older the fact that these things made my dad insane was just an added bonus.
But this one I've never heard before, but Monday night Raziya informed both me and Deanna that we put our hands in our pockets like boys. Not because we put our hands in our pockets...but how we did it. Deanna had her hands in her back pockets with her thumbs out of the pocket, I had my thumbs only in my front pockets, although sometimes I'll reverse that and put my fingers and not my thumb in my pocket. Apparantly this is only acceptable if you're male. Girls are (so I was informed) supposed to put just their middle finger in their pocket and leave their thumb and the other three fingers out. My sister called a friend of her's who has a 12 year old girl (Raziya is 10) and asked her...and this kid said the same thing. As did my cousin Kristen who is 22....
Have you ever tried to just put your middle finger in your pocket? It's uncomfortable as hell. Why would you do that? And when exactly did this become some sort of gender identity rule? Because quite frankly not only have I never heard of this, but I've never seen anyone do it either. Other than Raziya on Monday when she was explaining this to us.
The entire conversation with the child made me wish I had also had half a bottle of tequila...maybe it would've made it make sense....
